13th May 2010 - 15th May 2010 Vienna Harley Days
Vienna Harley Days
Vienna, Austria, May 13-15
History becomes tangible in the city of Vienna. A crucible of nations, Austrian gemütlichkeit mingles with eastern European panache, oriental fire with Mediterranean liveliness.
In May, Vienna comes alive as Harley-Davidson kicks off the motorcycle season with Vienna Harley Days. This year, the event takes place in a 20,000m² area at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion – located inside the charming and easily accessible Prater.
In front of Austria’s largest stadium, this festival tent town – with a trader and food mile, and large main street – will be created, through which patrons may stroll day and night on their bikes. An open-air stage will host numerous live bands who will rock the park from 4pm each day. More excitement will be created with hot performances by stunt professional Rainer Schwarz, demonstrating breakneck motorcycle acrobatics!
Those with a valid motorcycle licence who would like to ride a Harley-Davidson can register for a free demo ride.
Those taking part in the great parade will proceed once more along the Wiener Ringstrasse and will be overwhelmed by the charm of the metropolis on the Danube and its rich heritage. Opera, Kunsthistorisches Museum and Burgtheater are just three of many sights along this representative mile – a real journey back in time.
One thing is for sure – everybody is bound to succumb to the legendary charms of the Austrian capital at Vienna Harley Days!
REVIEW 2009 - ROCK ME AMADEUS!
It was once the imperial capital and royal seat of the Habsburgs; today the historic metropolis on the north-eastern fringe of the Alps is the federal capital of Austria. We are, of course, talking about Vienna: a friendly, cosmopolitan city that has had one further attraction to offer since 2009. After all, the city played host to the first Vienna Harley Days in May.
In beautiful weather, 30,000 motorcycle fans from the Alpine republic and its neighbours poured into Vienna for a lively three-day party. Whether you drove a US bike or not, it made
no difference. Enthusiasm for the American way of life knew no bounds, uniting young and old and the widest variety of characters.
Harley-Davidson and its sporty subsidiary Buell pitched their tents on Rotundenplatz in the heart of Prater park. This was a place to listen and be amazed, a place to feast and to shop, and a place for fun and fascination. The huge "Harley Village" was free to enter and truly offered something for every taste: from motorcycle clothing and accessories to food and drink, from adrenaline-packed stunt shows and cool poker matches to nine hot live music acts. "Supermax" rocked the large open-air stage on Saturday night.
But the real stars of the event were the motorcycles - each one more attractive than the next and no two identical! Those who wanted to experience the feeling of riding such a bike themselves jumped in the saddle for one of 260 free test drives, while those who wanted to be swept away by the fascinating spectacle as onlookers joined the countless fans lining the streets for the huge parade on Saturday. In a procession of more than 1,000 motorcycles gleaming with chrome, the bikers bade farewell to their hosts. Harley-Davidson and Buell will be returning to Vienna, and the date for next year is already set: May 14-16, 2010.
